2010-2011 Season
Our Second Season see Current Season see 2009-2010 Season
We were thrilled with our inaugural season two original plays, an original musical, and a variety show! And we didn't slow down one bit in 2010-2011.
We opened the season with Vampires! Horror! a campy rock musical about vampires trying to take ove the world! Following that, we had hoped to take our holiday variety show Spiked! to Okinawa, Japan to entertain the troops, but things fell through at the last minute. The show was such a huge success in 2009, however, that we promise to bring it back in December of 2011. And we were so excited about the rest of our second season! We launched a weekly (!) show called Brain Game in December. Hosted by Dennis Curley, this brand new panel-style show features a rotating group of some of the Twin Cities' finest improvisational minds, as well as audience contestants! Then, in February, we settled into a more contemplative mood with playwright Rachael Brogan Flanery's Nest. And we rounded out the year with Danger! Will/Robinson, side-splitting sketch comedy from Table Salt regulars Joshua Will and Jim Robinson!
Thanks to all who spent a little time with Table Salt during our second season. For those of you who are new to us, be sure to sign up to be on our e-mail list, and we'll see you at the theater!
The Shows
Vampires! Horror!
Vampires! Horror! a brand new rock musical is coming to the Old Arizona! With music by Dennis Curley and book and lyrics by Beau Hays, this campy show gleefully rides the blazing popularity of the Twilight series, the Anne Rice vampire books, and such television classics as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Forever Knight, Moonlight, Being Human, The Vampire Diaries, and True Blood!
In the tiny town of Rayburg, an unlikely cast of characters finds themselves enmeshed in the threads of a dire prophecy. Is Teri Lyn's unborn baby really the long-awaited Vampire Queen? Does her toymaker husband, Roger, really work for the military, and does he unknowingly hold the key to humanity's very survival? Will hack tabloid reporter Loretta St. James uncover the truth in time to get the headlines she so desperately craves? As Daylight Saving Time comes to a close, the vampires and the U.S. military prepare to do battle once more, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. And with dancing.
Brain Game
Brain Game is a brand new panel show featuring some of the Twin Cities' finest improvisers. Watch them match wits with each other, the audience, and the unforgiving clock!Written and Hosted by Dennis Curley, and featuring:
Mark Bergren, Katy McEwen, Michelle Cassioppi, Jim Robinson, Rachael Brogan Flanery, Joshua Will, Andrea Guilford ... and a bevy of guest panelists!
On Saturday, December 4, we hosted the PREMIERE of Brain Game as a benefit to raise money for Pakistani flood relief (at the Lowry Lab Theater, in conjunction with the American Red Cross). We are thrilled to announce that we raised over $1,800 for this most worthy cause!
Brain Game was enthusiastically received by a close-to-sold-out house, and we began our weekly run in February of 2011!
Nest
Katherine has always found being a dutiful daughter difficult, and now her mother's recent brain damage and increased drinking is making it impossible. Katherine's apartment, job and relationship all fall apart with her mother's surprise visit.
Table Salt is thrilled to be producing the world premiere of this nationally recognized play! (Eugene O'Neill Playwrights' Conference; Princess Grace Foundation.)
Danger! Will/Robinson
One is an Emmy award-winning comedy writer; the other possesses two Masters, a Ph.D and a B.S. Degree in funny. Both are hysterically self-conscious. Jim "Sketch Comedy is Clearly His Calling" Robinson and Joshua "Satirical Backbone with Élan" Will two of the Twin Cities' sharpest, funniest and most handsomest sketch comedy performers have a few things they'd like to get off their chests.
Danger! Will/Robinson, a joint venture of Table Salt Productions and The Recovery Party, dives deep into the Archives de la Comédie to revisit some of Josh and Jim's classic sketches in addition to introducing a slew of new material that tackles everything from the perils of dating to which [censored] color to paint the [censored] walls.
Accompanied by Dennis "Lovely Songs" Curley, the cast of Danger! Will/Robinson invites you to share an evening of self-indulgent sketch comedy with them. If they're not too busy patting themselves on the back, that is.
